Photographic Session (1st Shoot)

I like how this image is only facial, however this may prove hard to find a colour to write over on the front page.

These images look fairly effective as the model is looking straight at the camera,  and the lighting objects in the background also add to the photograph as it makes it intentionally obvious that it is a studio shot. I noticed that photographers sometimes use background objects like this in Vogue.

This isnt really a picture I would like to show on the front cover or in the magazine at all as it isnt a strong photograph and the model has too much of a natural look for the genre I am focusing on.
I used a coat to cover the model in this photo, basically to create a unique photo rather than just a typical pose.

These photographs are different however, I wouldn't want to use either of these pictures in my magazine as I think they show too much for a music magazine also the poses arn't that strong.

On the 1st image, I told the model to turn around and flip her hair as I took the photo. This looked quite effective however, I dont think I want to use it in the magazine because both of the images are too dark.

The models hair looks good here however the background is too dark.

This image is far too dark.
All of the above images are fairly strong however they are far too dark to use or edit on photoshop.

Add caption
This is a strong pose and I think that the use of costume illustrates r'n'b music quite well and looks unique. Also the ring is very visible. This image would be more effective with the green background edited out.

I like how the model is turned on this image and looking directly at the camera.

I like the use of light in this image, but the models pose arnt as good as some of the other images.
I like this image because the coat is draped across the models back so again it looks different and unique.
I chose to shoot the photographs in the studio to gain a quality of lighting, I explored a range of angles so I had a choice of photographs and poses to pick from. I also liked the colour of the green screen in the background against the model I thought it helped to make her stand out and added to the effectiveness of my chosen genre. However, after taking the photographs it proved hard to add lettering and develop/edit the photographs on photoshop. The green didnt allow me to cut out the model from the background easily.
This is when I decided to take a second shoot.

3. Vibe Magazine (Analysis of Contents page.)

This Contents page is for Vibe magazine.

The title of the page 'Contents' is conventionally at the top of the page in bold letters, white and bold capital letters are used to contrast with the grey background. This is to make the title of the page stand out, so they audience are aware of exactly what they are looking at.

There is a large image of a celebrity (probably featured in the magazine) across the bottom of the page, the woman directs her eye-line straight towards the camera which attracts the reader. The celebritys outfit links with the same colours as the background also her hair is black which again contrasts with the background and a colour scheme is clearly black and white. Her legs are also cleverly positioned in a 'v' shape in line with the outline of a 'v' in the background of the page, this is a reminder that the magazine is called 'Vibe'. The letter is presented in quite a subtle way by using a thin white outline so it is able to be seen but doesn't overpower the title of the page. The celebrities heels are also pointing towards the top of the page which could be done purpously to draw the readers eye towards 'contents' the object of the page.
The writing on the page uses fairly informative language, there are sub-headings letting the reader know what the magazine will contain, and page numbers at the beginning of each paragraph allowing the reader to know what is on each page. There isn't too much writing on the page which makes it clear and easy to read.
3. Vibe Magazine (Analysis of double page spread)

Selected Music Genre

My chosen Music Genre is Pop/R'n'b. I have chose to focus on this over the others as I think I know more about it. My music magazine will feature popular artists e.g Chris Brown, Rihanna, Beyonce, Drake.
Pop music is a genre which is originated in the 1950's, the key features of this genre are urban themed, written in a basic format which often has a structure of repeated choruses, melodic sound, and catchy hooks. R&B is meant to provoke a relaxed attitude, and desires to appeal to a mass audience.

R&B Music is a genre of popular African American Music which originated in the 1940's. It was classed as music with a heavy, insistent beat.
A newer style of R&B has currently been developed, becoming known as Contemporary R&B.
Q Magazine and Vibe magazine currently cover this genre.

Planning and Development

I liked this image and thought that it would represent Wyke's entrance as clear and Welcoming as I gave photographed the college logo on the wall aswell.

This gives a clear illustration of the size of Wyke.

This photo wasn't as clear as the others as the sun was in the photo and i noticed rubbish on the floor after.

I decided to choose this photograph to photoshop onto a picture of the college as the students look happy and studious.

Price and how often published

The price of the magazine has to be fairly low so that it will be appealing to the students at Wyke. Most students will not spend money on things which arn't needed like clothes or food, therefore I thought that a price under 50p for the magazine would be fairly reasonable. Also this would cover publishing costs and a small profit depending on howmany of the students were to buy the magazine.
The magazine would be published monthly to keep costs down and allow students to wait each month to gain excitement and so that more body or more important information would fit into the magazines.

Target Audience

The target audience for the magazine is specifically aimed at Wyke college, as this is an independant college the information inside the magazine will not apply to any college. It lists post and forthcoming events that will interest students both male and female at the college.

Identifying and explaining why I have chosen Wyke College for my preliminary task.

I have chosen Wyke college to feature in my preliminary task. As I already attend this college I already have an understanding how it works. Wyke is friendly and fun. It promotes an environment for achievement and learning with great technical facilities and advances. The colleges modernised aesthetics and landscapes are visible throughout the building. The college would benefit from this magazine as it would encourage students to attend and enjoy wyke as a whole, displaying its benefits and advantages including sport sucesses, and strong academic successes throughout the year that may act as positive influences for the students to do well.

Magazine analysis

LANGUAGE
The masthead features at the top of the page in a large bold font, it is red which fits in with the college t-shirt the girl is wearing.
The price and barcode are fitted into the bottom right-hand corner, also the date in a small font underneath the mast-head. These are clear to see and writtem in white or yellow to distinguish them from the background.
‘Tucker max’, ‘Smoking salvia’ and ‘She’s 15 and pregnant' all act as teasers. They summarise features of the magazine that are meant to grab the audiences attention and are also written in a larger bold, different coloured font to the other writing.
The main-feature headline is ‘A new kind of balancing act’ this is directly next to the girls head so the audience are drawn to it easily.

INSTITUTION
SMU College have produced this magazine as they want to promote their  college to raise the amount of students wishing to attend the college.

IDEOLOGY
The magazine has been made to encourage and promote values of education and learning for everybody in society.

AUDIENCE
The magazine is aimed at students at SMU college, I know this as it is printed on the girl’s t-shirt and quotes, ’Nastia Liukin on SMU’s campus’.

REPRESENTATION
Bright colours are used on the cover to define and illuminate words, the red could possibly symbolise hard-working determination and education. The background of the advert is blurred out so the audience are able to see the main focus (girl) more distinctively. The background is a picture of  a field which the audience sybolise with a school/ college.

INSTITUTION
The magazine doesn't feature a particlular college however it has been made to encourage learning and entertainment in students outside and inside of college.

IDEOLOGY
This magazine has been made not only to encourage learning and young people to attend college but to have fun in the process.
It also advertises entertainment and events to do in the holidays.

AUDIENCE
This magazine doesn't specify a particular college,it looks as if it aimed at girls at college, however im sure it may have some aspects which may encourage male readership, the audience could tell this because it uses phrases and subtitles like 'campus casual to party chic'. Also there has been a male model used to advertise the college which is to encourage female readership.

REPRESENTATION
The background colour of the magazine is mainly black however titles and the masthead are all written in bright colours, for example pinks ,yellows and whites so that the readers eye are drawn to them.

EXAMPLES OF CONTENTS PAGE:

These contents pages are produced in a way that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They are full of colours and different fonts which make the reader want to look at the page.  It shows pictures of topics inside the magazine and names the main issues and points the magazine want to make. I like how bold and different the font is and how there is arty designs on the first example which make the page look nice.
